Frank. - Chapter 12

- the 'vulnerable' blind man is cared for by his cottage companions. Creature witnesses compassion for the first time
- 'If such lovely creatures were miserable, it was less strange that I, an imperfect and solitary being, should be wretched'
- when he sees that stealing the cottagers' food brings pain on them, he stops doing so, and collects his food from the woods again
- also collects wood for the fire, saving the young man his labours. Creature learns how to use tools
- describes speach as a 'Godlike science', Perhaps also due to Paradise lost; lucifer being the angel blessed with articulation
- Names - Felix, Agatha and Father
- 'language...might enable me to make them overlook the deformity of my figure'
- 'I was terrified when I viewed myself' shows how he has learned that he is not like other humans, if he is even human
- Foreshadowing; 'I did not yet entirely know the fatal effects of this misserable deformity'
- begins doing Felix's duties for him out of sympathy and longing to be accepted/discovered by the family
- 'wonderful' and 'good spirit' are used to describe his labors for the family. he is praised because he does good things and they cannot see his deformity
- '[the family are] superior beings who would be the arbiters of my future destiny'. linked to '(foolish wretch!)' show his naivety ont he situation; he is still developing like a child
